Research Decisions (4th Ed.)

Research Decisions: Qualitative and Quantitative Perspectives

bullet 1st Edition: published through Harcourt Brace Jovanovich (Canada) in 1992.
bullet 2nd Edition published by Harcourt Brace Canada in 1997.
bullet 3rd Edition published in 2003 by Thomson Nelson Canada (who purchased Harcourt).
bullet 4th Edition -- co-authored with Chris Atchison -- published in 2007 by Thomson Nelson Canada.

The new edition is updated and re-vamped in many respects. Most notable are a new chapter on writing a proposal, and new sections at several locations in the book -- e.g., discussions of sampling and interactive techniques -- that outline the impact that new and emerging technologies are having on the data gathering process in what we label most generally as computer-assisted social research (CASR).

The book continues to be used across Canada in something like 40 different colleges and universities in Departments of Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Business, Communications, Political Science, Environment and Resource Studies, Law and Family Science in methods courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The book also enjoys use in the United States, Great Britain and Australia.

Chris and I thank all the faculty who order the book in their courses, all the students and others who purchase it, and all those in both groups who have passed on commentary to us directly or through the publishers that has contributed to the book's development.
