About this event

Join Catherine Dauvergne, VP Academic and Provost at a special Information Session for Indigenous SFU students, faculty and staff on the proposed SFU Medical School.

SFU is proposing a medical program that includes a three-way partnership with the First Nations Health Authority and the Fraser Health Authority to guide the vision and leverage expertise.

We have an opportunity to train physicians differently—to focus on community-embedded, socially accountable and culturally relevant health care that meets the needs of Indigenous communities across the province, as well as diverse, underserved and historically marginalized populations in the Fraser Health region.

Our programming will embed Indigenous ways of knowing and being, while teaching cultural safety and humility. This approach will be a key aspect of addressing the findings and recommendations outlined in the In Plain Sight report, tackling inequities and transforming health care.

As part of our engagement process, the Office of the Vice-President, Academic (VPA) is hosting a virtual Information Session and Discussion for Indigenous members of the SFU community on January 20th, 2022. Indigenous students, faculty and staff at SFU are invited to learn more about this proposal and provide their feedback.

Participants can ask questions and offer input that will inform early planning.

Indigenous SFU students, faculty and staff are invited to join this Information Session.

We hope you will join us for this interactive 90-min session.

The session will be divided into three main parts:

Introduction and overview: Catherine Dauvergne will share the early thinking and planning for the proposed SFU Medical School.

Questions and answers: This is where we need you! We are inviting all participants to participate in a live, moderated Q&A session with Catherine Dauvergne.

Small breakout groups: To hear from you directly, participants will be divided into small groups to provide ideas and feedback on some key questions. Your input will help inform future planning and guide subsequent engagement.

Space is limited, so please register today.

Automatic closed captioning will be turned on at this event.

Looking forward to seeing you on January 20, 2022.
