As health budgets shrink, information and communication technologies
are increasingly viewed as the means for more efficient and
effective delivery of health care services. ACTION for Health
questions this faith in technology to cure the health sector
in an innovative, four-year study, which commenced in the fall
of 2003.
Researchers from diverse backgrounds are working together
to investigate the role of the internet, electronic patient
records, computerized information systems and other forms
of information technology in the health sector. Research will
address whether public funds invested in this area are meeting
expectations and producing the desired results.
This site is designed to bring project information and relevant
research findings to the public, decision-makers, academics
and other affected communities. It is part of ACTION for Health's
strategy to encourage positive change in Canada's health system.
ACTION for Health is made possible by a grant from the
Social Sciences
and Humanities Research Council of Canada, under their
Initiative for the New Economy: Collaborative Research Initiative,
with support from Simon
Fraser University, Vancouver
Coastal Health Research Institute and Centre
for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation
