Downtown Alumni Group X'mas Soiree – December 8, 2004

The first annual DAG X'mas Soiree was filled with food, drink, socializing, and holiday merriment. A networking game provided a fun way to break the ice and gave everyone a chance to meet. Prizes were given away during the evening thanks to generous sponsors: Bacardi, E&J Gallo, Ganache Patisserie, Mark Anthony Group, Moxie's Classic Bar & Grill, Select Wines and the SFU Bookstore. Alumni feedback during the event was very positive. Thanks to all who attended, to DAG volunteers who organized it and the SFU Alumni Association for ongoing support and sponsorship.

Downtown Alumni Group Professional Networking Event – October 6, 2004
The 2nd activity of the SFU Downtown Alumni Group was a free professional development event: "Networking to Build Relationships" with Margaret Hope on the evening of October 6 at SFU's Harbour Centre campus. The event was made possible through the support of SFU Harbour Centre, Margaret Hope, and the CGA Association of BC. Thank you to our generous sponsors and to all the alumni who participated in this great evening!

Downtown Alumni Group Social – July 15, 2004

The first activity of the SFU Downtown Alumni Group was a social gathering at TC Lions Pub in downtown Vancouver. Thanks to everyone who came out to make this inaugural event a success.

Psychology Alumni Distinguished Lecture – November 1, 2004

More than 40 psychology grads attended the 1st annual Psychology Alumni Distinguished Lecture followed by a wine & cheese reception at the Halpern Centre on the SFU Burnaby campus. They heard special guest speaker, renowned cognitive psychologist Dr. Ray Hyman, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the U. of Oregon, speaking on "How Smart People Go Wrong". Dr. Hyman is one of the world's leading scientific critics of parapsychology and a highly respected magician. The event was sponsored by the SFU Department of Psychology and the SFU Alumni Association.

Janis Horne, Director of Alumni Relations and Executive Director of the SFU Alumni Association, visited with SFU alumni in the London area on the evening of September 20 at the Maple Leaf Pub in Covent Garden. She gave an update on the latest news from SFU and discussed establishing an alumni group in the UK. A jolly good time was had by all! More than 40 alumni including 12 new SFU grads gathered in Hong Kong on August 5 to network and discuss future plans for the Hong Kong Alumni Group.

Close to 100 guests attended a reception for graduating international students hosted by President Michael Stevenson at the Diamond University Centre on the SFU Burnaby Campus. It was wonderful to see so many students, parents, family and friends from all over the world gathered together to enjoy great food and conversation, not to mention SFU's beautiful mountain-top view! All-Canadian Alumni Events – Los Angeles, Washington and Boston

1. All-Canadian Universities Alumni Event in Los Angeles – April 17, 2004
Alumni in the LA area heard Carol Stephenson, Dean of UWO's Richard Ivey School of Business, speaking on "Rebuilding Trust: The Integral Role of Leadership in Fostering Values, Honesty and Vision" at the Century Plaza Hotel.
2. All-Canadian Universities Alumni Event in Washington, DC – April 17, 2004
Alumni in the Washington DC area heard Dr. Sandra Witelson, Chair in Neuroscience at McMaster University, talk about her amazing discoveries studying Einstein's brain at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda.
3. All-Canadian Universities Alumni Event in Boston – May 1, 2004
Alumni in the Boston area heard Dr. Gilles Patry, President and alumnus of the University of Ottawa, speaking on "The Scholar, the State and the Boardroom" at the Langham Hotel Boston.

Los Angeles and San Francisco Alumni Receptions – November 9 & 10, 2004
SFU President Dr. Michael Stevenson, VP University Relations Dr. Warren Gill and Catherine Price, Associate Director International Alumni, travelled to California in November to meet with SFU alumni in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Thank you to all alumni who attended and to Mr. Alain Dudoit, Consul General of Canada, for hosting alumni at the official residence in LA. The San Francisco event was held at the Fairmont San Francisco.

Ottawa and Toronto Alumni Breakfast – October 26 & 29, 2004

Dr. Michael Stevenson and Janis Horne, Executive Director of the SFU Alumni Association, met with alumni in Ottawa and Toronto at breakfast receptions at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier and the University Club of Toronto.

The President gave a presentation to alumni and guests to update them on the latest exciting developments at the university.

Alumni Annual Gathering & General Meeting – May 12, 2004

Executive MBA Alumni Wine & Cheese Event – November 25, 2004 This year's event was held at Steamworks in Gastown. Over 200 alumni came out and reconnected with fellow EMBA alumni. The event was sponsored by the SFU Alumni Association and the EMBA Alumni Chapter.
