Alumni 40th Anniversary Celebration - October 1, 2005

Opening of Diamond Alumni Centre - September 28, 2005
The Diamond Alumni Centre (DAC) is the newest benefit for SFU alumni. Thanks to a significant donation by the Alumni Association, the former Diamond University Centre was renovated and expanded in spring 2005 to accommodate larger events. In recognition of the significant contributions alumni make to SFU, the facility was renamed the Diamond Alumni Centre at the official opening on September 28, 2005. Annual Alumni Gathering and General Meeting – May 25, 2005
Over 200 alumni and friends attended the Annual Alumni Gathering and General Meeting at SFU Harbour Centre on May 25 for board member elections, an update on alumni activities, and a wine tasting presentation and reception. Featured guest John Schreiner, national wine columnist and author of nine books on wine, gave us an inside look at the dynamic world of BC wines. The wine tasting included more than a dozen wineries including a unique barrel tasting of Tinhorn Creek's 2004 Merlot and an opportunity to purchase futures at a 20% discount. Outstanding Alumni Awards - February 16, 2005
Over 250 alumni and friends joined members of the SFU community on Wednesday February 16, 2005 at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Vancouver for the Alumni Association's biggest night of the year – the Outstanding Alumni Awards!

New York Alumni

Los Angeles Alumni
SFU and UBC alumni enjoyed a pre-game brunch and then cheered on the Vancouver Canucks vs Anaheim Mighty Ducks on November 2 in Anaheim, CA.

PRESIDENT'S TRIP TO ASIA

SFU President Dr. Michael Stevenson and Catherine Price, Associate Director of International Alumni Relations, travelled to Asia in October and met with alumni in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing (China), and Hong Kong. MBA Tune Up Event - November 24, 2005
MBA alumni and guests tuned up their brain cells at a lunch at the Segal Graduate School of Business followed by presentations from three leading business professors: Dr. Leyland Pitt, Dr. David Thomas, and Dr. Mark Wexler.

Executive MBA Alumni Annual Wine & Cheese Reception - November 24, 2005
EMBA alumni enjoyed their seasonal get-together with hors d'oeuvres, drinks, networking, and reconnecting in the beautiful Segal Graduate School of Business.

SFU Business and Friends Golf Tournament – May 31, 2005

The rain didn't dampen the spirits of participants in the SFU Business and Friends Golf Tournament on May 31 at the University Golf Club in Vancouver. Golfing, good food, prizes and fun were had all in support of SFU Business and students.

Executive MBA Alumni Chapter: Annual General Meeting – May 25, 2005
The Executive MBA alumni chapter held their AGM at SFU Harbour Centre on May 25, 2005. Many attendees joined the Alumni Association AGM and Wine Tasting which followed later in the evening.

SFU Business and B.A.S.S. Student Banquet – March 10, 2005
Students from SFU's business faculty joined business professionals, alumni and sponsors for this signature networking event at the Four Seasons Hotel. SFU Business Impact Awards were presented to Brandt Louie, current Chair of SFU's Board of Governors, and Charlena Chan, SFU student completing a joint honours in MBB and Business.

Executive Forum – March 3, 2005
Presented by the Executive MBA Alumni Chapter and sponsored by the Certified Management Accountants Canada, this half-day seminar at SFU Harbour Centre presented "New Perspectives on Marketing Strategy: Exploring Unknown Territory vs. Mining Existing Gems". The panel included SFU Business marketing Professor Leyland Pitt and the in-the-trenches perspective of companies like Lululemon and Electronic Arts.

MBA Alumni Dinner – January 8, 2005
MBA alumni attended the first annual MBA Alumni Dinner at the Vancouver Club to hear keynote speaker Mossadiq Umedaly, Chairman & CEO, Xantrex Technology and 2004 recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in Technology/Manufacturing.

SFU Choir Alumni Reunion - November 26, 2005
Choir alumni gave a special 40th anniversary concert with special guests the Vancouver Chamber Choir on Saturday, November 26 at Images Theatre on the SFU Burnaby campus. Prior to the performance, they enjoyed a reunion luncheon for at the Diamond Alumni Centre. Find out more at www.sfuchoir.ca.

BC Lions vs Toronto Argos: All BC Universities Alumni Event – June 25, 2005
Alumni in the Toronto area joined alumni of UBC and UVic for the BC Lions vs the Toronto Argonauts game at the Rogers Centre. Guests enjoyed a pre-game dinner at Planet Hollywood before cheering the Lions on to victory!

Downtown Alumni Group (DAG) Professional Development Event – March 10, 2005
The DAG Organizing Committee and DAG host Arieanna Foley hosted keynote award-winning speaker Dorothea Hendriks of Toastmaster’s International in a session on public speaking on the evening of Thursday March 10 at the YWCA. Attendees learned how effective public speaking skills can help you become a better communicator in the boardroom, in presenting yourself and your ideas, and in everyday interactions. They also participated in “Impromptu Speaking” exercises.
