Creating a Remarkable Career:  Alumni Event
Wednesday, April 10, 2013: What would you do if you could see out into the future, rewind your career and replay it in order to ensure you maximize success and minimize regrets? To help gain insight, the SFU Alumni Association is hosting an event where three diverse speakers who have created remarkable careers for themselves will present and participate in a panel discussion. This is a perfect learning and networking event for alumni who have graduated in the last five years.  [Learn more] 

Discounts for Alumni from SFU Woodward's
SFU Woodward's Cultural Unit has been able to secure discounts for SFU alumni for two events.  The first is a 10% discount for Hollyhock's Social Venture Institute (SVI) Women in Vancouver on May 1-3, 2013.  Simply click on "The SFU Alumni Association" in the "how did you hear about us" section to receive the discount.  The second alumni discount is for $5.00 off of tickets for the Turning Point Ensemble on May 31 and June 1. SFU's April Fool's Video:  Removal of all Campus Chairs 
On April 1, SFU released a first-of-its-kind-April-Fools-Day video to launch a pilot project encouraging members of the university community to “take a stand” and lead a healthy life. The project would see the removal of chairs from select lecture theatres, computer labs, boardrooms and offices. Despite the university being closed for the statutory holiday on Monday, there have been more than 10,000 views of the video and numerous comments posted via YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.  [View the video] 

President's Faculty Lecture Series
Tuesday, April 9, 2013:   SFU psychology professor, SFU alumna and Outstanding Alumni Award recipient Marlene Moretti will deliver the next SFU President’s Faculty Lecture Series address, entitled “Natural Born Delinquents or Psychopathology Untreated? Understanding and Reducing Risks for Aggressive and Antisocial Behaviour in Teens.” Moretti, a Canadian Institutes of Health Research senior chair, will discuss how developmental science can help further understanding of what turns teens into aggressive, violent, antisocial people. She will also review evidence on the effectiveness of intervention to prevent or reduce risk of this behaviour.  [Learn more]  

Vancouver Whitecaps:  Alumni and Friends Event
Saturday, April 13, 2013:   We are happy to invite SFU alumni along with their family and friends to watch the Vancouver Whitecaps play Real Salt Lake at BC Place. Tickets are only $25 (taxes/fees included) and are for the white and teal sections - a 35% savings. This alumni event is family-friendly and affordable; with over 200 tickets sold, we are sure it will be a fantastic event! Bonus:  one grad will be selected to participate in a post-match penalty kick contest! SFU Launches Social Innovation Lab and Incubator
The Beedie School of Business has established RADIUS (RADical Ideas, Useful to Society), a new interdisciplinary social innovation lab and venture incubator that aims to change business education and launch high-impact solutions to social challenges. RADIUS will bring together students from all faculties across SFU to develop and nurture practical solutions to pressing social problems and provide opportunities for deeper learning.  [Learn more]

Save The Date:  May 22, 2013
The SFU Alumni Association will be holding the 2013 Annual Alumni Gathering and General Meeting (AAGGM) on Wednesday, May 22. At the event you can expect to meet the Alumni Association Board of Directors, hear an update from President Petter, participate in the AGM, and listen to our feature presentations.  This is an ideal event to connect with your alumni community and expand your network of SFU graduates who are engaging the world in exciting and influential ways.
