Nominations are being accepted until Monday, July 4, 2011 for the 28th annual SFU Outstanding Alumni Awards. Award categories include: professional, academic, arts & culture, athletics, public service, service to the community, and service to the university. [Learn more] It's A Family Affair This Weekend On Burnaby Mountain! Celebrate the International Year of Chemistry and the BC Year of Science during fun-filled CHEMQUEST2011 complete with prizes, games and giveaways! Then head over to University Highlands Elementary School's Green Community Carnival - both on SFU's Burnaby Mountain campus this Saturday, May 14h. [Learn more]  Help Us Make A Difference: SFU Alumni Day of Service Whether it be protecting the environment, helping those who are disadvantaged, or a multitude of other causes, the SFU Alumni Association’s Board of Directors are asking all SFU Alumni to participate in our second annual Day of Service on Saturday, June 18th, 2011. SFU President Andrew Petter is proud of the fact that SFU is a community-engaged institution, and we're keen to demonstrate that our alumni carry that same perspective within their local communities. [Learn more] Thanking Our Alumni Donors In 2010/2011, alumni donors have given more than $600,000 through the SFU Student Calling Program, which directly assists students with reaching their academic goals. This year, more than one third of our alumni increased their gifts from past years and more chose to support students year round with a monthly gift. There are now nearly 1,100 monthly donors giving more than $170,000 per year! With increasing and consistent support, and the addition of many new members to the alumni donor family, our alumni community has donated $1.5M this year in addition to the record-breaking $22 M gift from Ryan and Keith Beedie. [Learn more]  Join the Party! SFU Surrey Community Open House & Alumni SocialSFU is opening 54,000-square-feet of new teaching and specialized science and research lab space at SFU Surrey. Join SFU President Andrew Petter on Saturday, May 28 to celebrate SFU’s Surrey Campus with a Community Open House and Alumni Social. This event will showcase the university’s people, programs, services, and amazing Central City campus in Surrey, as well as provide a great opportunity for networking and reconnecting. [Learn more] Alumni Participation in 2011 Census Starting May 2, all households in Canada will receive a yellow census package. Census information is vital for planning important community services such as education, seniors housing, health care, daycare, police services and fire protection. As well, many SFU researchers - including faculty, students and alumni - depend on census data to support their research work. SFU alumni are encouraged to complete the census questionnaire to help ensure good quality data for your community and SFU.
