ALUMNI & CAMPUS NEWS Annual Alumni Gathering & General MeetingMay 22, 2013: The SFU Alumni Association invites you to Engaging the World - the 2013 Annual Alumni Gathering & General Meeting at the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. Connect with your alumni community and expand your network of SFU graduates who are engaging the world in exciting and influential ways. Meet SFU President Andrew Petter and enjoy a keynote talk by alumnus Danny Catt (BSc ’87, MSc ’91), wildlife ecologist, educator and photographer. [Register by May 14] Outstanding Alumni Awards: Call for Nominations The Outstanding Alumni Awards were established in 1983, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of the program! The SFU Alumni Association will honour up to four outstanding graduates. Alumni, students, faculty, staff and members of the general community are invited to nominate candidates for the 2013 SFU Outstanding Alumni Awards. Nominations are accepted until June 21, 2013. [Learn more] Notice of ElectionMay 21-28, 2013: The SFU Alumni Association will conduct its Board elections exclusively online. As a result, no paper-based voting will be conducted. On May 21st you'll be receiving a text-based email from alumni@sfu.ca titled "Voting link: SFU Alumni Association Board". Simply click the link within that email and cast your vote online before Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11:59am. All votes cast are anonymous and confidential. [Learn about the candidates] Ride to Conquer Cancer - Volunteering Opportunity June 15, 2013: Calling all early-risers! The Alumni Association invites grads to come to the Fraser Downs Racetrack in Cloverdale to volunteer for the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Help welcome the riders, direct them where to go, help cheer them on as they start their long journey for a great cause, and assist in packing up the opening ceremony venue. [Volunteer registration form] Talking SustainabilityOn Earth Day April 22, 2013, SFU’s Sustainability Office launched the Talking Sustainability Initiative. Through Talking Sustainability the SFU Sustainability Office invites SFU community members (alumni included!) to join in a dialogue about the kind of world we want to live in, how the concept of sustainability relates to building this world, and what we need to do to get there. [Learn More] SFU and TD Unveil Community Engagement Centre in Surrey TD Bank Group has donated $750,000 to establish a community engagement centre in the heart of Surrey from which SFU will deliver a wide range of community programs. Located in the new Surrey City Centre Library, the SFU Surrey – TD Community Engagement Centre will foster stronger links between the university and Surrey’s diverse and growing population.
