ALUMNI & CAMPUS NEWS SFU Public Square: 100 Community Conversations Share your perspectives on the key issues and strategies required to adeptly move BC’s economy forward. As part of SFU Public Square’s Community Summit you’re invited to host a conversation this July/August in your organization or community about BC’s economic future. The goal: 100 unique conversations to inform a daylong deliberative dialogue with the province’s key stakeholders in October. [Learn more] Alumni Mentors Wanted Young Women in Business (YWiB) SFU is looking for grads from various industries who are interested in becoming mentors for the 2013/2014 SOUL Mentorship program. The initiative matches female students with male or female SFU alumni in their prospective career fields for a nine month relationship. Mentors help mentees build personal and professional confidence, and contribute back to the SFU community by supporting inspiring female students. [Learn more] Play Hockey for Food July 20, 2013: Over the past three years, the Five Hole For Food (FHFF) tour has raised in excess of 200,000 pounds of food for local food banks across Canada. Started by alumnus Richard Loat, this is the fourth year that the FHFF tour is tackling hunger in a coast-to-coast road trip ending July 20 in Vancouver. The team sets up drop-in ball-hockey games at each stop and people are invited to bring their hockey sticks to play. It’s free to participate, and players are asked to bring a cash donation or a non-perishable good for their local food bank. [Learn more] TEDxSFU Returns! September 21, 2013: This year’s theme is "Make It Yours"; more specifically, how YOU can design your own path, bring YOUR ideas to life, and take action. Speakers will be announced shortly. Alumni who are interested in attending will have an opportunity to submit an application in the near future. [Learn more] September 28, 2013: Join the SFU Alumni Association for our Alumni Day of Service as we participate in the 20th Annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. We’ll be gathering on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00am to noon to help clean up 3 sites: Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver - specific locations to be announced soon. It's a great opportunity for alumni and their families to make a difference in the local community, while taking part in a nationwide effort. [Learn more] An Evening with Dr. Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Prize Winner October 3, 2013: SFU Public Square, in partnership with Vancity, presents The Price of Inequality: An Evening with Joseph Stiglitz. This event, a part of the 2013 Community Summit: Charting BC's Economic Future, is open to the public at no cost.
