ALUMNI & CAMPUS NEWS

SFU Pipe Band Wins 6th World Crown
The SFU Pipe Band won the 2009 World Pipe Band Championship on August 15, before a huge crowd at Glasgow Green and a world-wide audience on BBC's live web broadcast. As well, the SFU Pipe Band drum corps retained its World Drum Corps Championship with the best all-round finish at this year's event. In winning both the World Pipe Band Championship and the World Drum Corps Championship two years in a row, SFU becomes only the second band in history to accomplish this feat. [Read more] or visit the band’s website at www.sfupipeband.com.

SFU First Canadian School in NCAA
Beginning in the 2011/12 season, SFU will become the first Canadian school – and first school outside the U.S. – to compete in Division II of the NCAA, the world’s largest college sports organization. As SFU alumnus and Toronto Raptors head coach Jay Triano observes, “To be the best, athletes need to compete against the best and I believe that by joining the NCAA, SFU is putting themselves in a position to do just that.” [Read more] Check out the 2009/10 game schedule for SFU’s 19 sports teams at http://athletics.sfu.ca/schedules. Come out with friends or family to watch a game – including the traditional Shrum Bowl - and cheer on the Clan athletes!

SFU President & Friends Golf Tournament

SFU Career Days – Sept 22/23/24
Searching for work? Interested in a career change? Tired of applying for jobs online? Check out opportunities with close to 100 employers at SFU's largest on-campus career fair. Surrey: Sept 22 and Burnaby: Sept 23/24. Several companies prefer candidates with work experience and a degree behind them, so this is a good chance for alumni to meet recruiters directly and hand-deliver a resume. The Graduate & Professional School Fair on Sept 24 in Burnaby features 34 organizations highlighting their educational programs and meeting potential candidates.
