Host Rick Mercer and SFU biologist Carl Lowenberger braved tanks of hungry mosquitoes on Sept 10 to launch the Spread the Net campus challenge, a national effort to reduce malaria in Africa. Hundreds of students joined SFU's President Stevenson to welcome Mercer and campaign partner UNICEF Canada. [Learn more] [View video] Free Telescopes and Stargazing at SFU Two Simon Fraser University scientists are inviting families to free astronomy lessons that will leave many participants starry-eyed this fall.Everyone is invited to look through the telescopes at a variety of celestial wonders, including star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, the Moon and the planets.They also offer an education program to school-aged children; to date more than 1,100 children from more than 30 Lower Mainland schools have participated.
