Engaging Alumni in Asia
President Petter recently returned from a whirlwind trip through Asia to conduct official business and bring greetings to alumni during several receptions. The alumni receptions gave grads an opportunity to reconnect with each other while also learning about SFU’s new vision, the alumni relations strategic plan, and the upcoming 50th Anniversary. President Petter shares his thoughts on his time in Hong Kong in “Petter’s Perspective: Notes from the President”.

Indigenous Alumni of SFU
SFU is looking to re-connect with its Indigenous alumni - those who are of First Nations, Metis, or Inuit ancestry. SFU's Indigenous Student Centre (ISC) and Alumni Relations are developing opportunities for Indigenous alumni to get involved with SFU, with fellow alumni, and with students. We encourage you to update your information with us so that we can best communicate opportunities to stay connected. Outstanding Alumni Award Recipients
Each year, SFU and the Alumni Association honour the most accomplished graduates with Outstanding Alumni Awards. Nominations are made by alumni, faculty, staff, students, and SFU's many friends in the community. The recipients of the 2012 Outstanding Alumni Awards are:
Svein Andresen, BA '81, MA '84 - Public Service;
Jo-ann Archibald, MEd '84, PhD '97 - Academic Achievement;
Joel Bakan, BA '81 - Professional Achievement; and
John Spinelli, BSc '79, MSc '81, PhD '94 - Academic Achievement. The Recipients will be recognized at the Outstanding Alumni Awards event on February 13, 2013.

SFU CLAN Newsletter
SFU Athletics is excited to launch a new weekly newsletter starting in January, 2013. “The Clan Chatter Newsletter” will keep you informed on the latest stories, statistics, scores, standings, and upcoming events for the SFU Clan. If you sign up before December 20, you will receive two free tickets to the SFU men’s basketball game on January 12 against Central Washington.

Call for Presenters: Backpack to Briefcase Conference - March 16
SFU Career Services and Alumni Relations invite you to share your knowledge and expertise with SFU students and recent alumni at the Backpack to Briefcase Conference. Share your success stories, strategies and techniques, personal perspectives and practical advice in the areas of career development and work search. Ideas include: career exploration, transition, networking, interview preparation, personal branding, using social media, exploring the non-profit sector, and more! Play Hockey for a Good Cause
The Beedie School of Business MBA students have teamed up with Five Hole for Food to host a charity drop-in floor hockey game on Saturday, December 15, between 12:00pm - 3:00pm, at the Jack Poole Plaza (Vancouver Convention Centre). All ages and skill levels are welcome to play - bring your stick! Each player is required to donate at least one can of food; all donations will go directly to the Vancouver Food Bank Society. SFU and Chinese University Offer Dual-Degree Program
Simon Fraser University’s School of Communication is partnering with the Communication University of China (CUC) in Beijing to offer an international double-degree program in global communication next fall. Candidates will study in a single cohort during a rigorous two-year program on both sides of the Pacific. Students will spend their first year at SFU’s Vancouver and Burnaby campuses. Year Two of the program takes place at the CUC campus in Beijing.
