Tips for Recent Graduates

Here are the Top 10 Tips we have to help you stay connected to SFU and your alumni community, and to make the most of your membership within the Alumni Association:

1. Update your address
Provide SFU with your most recent contact information, including email and mailing addresses to ensure we provide you with targeted messaging and event invitations.

2. Network Online
Join our strong presence on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter to keep up to date with the latest news, benefits, services and events.

3. Join the Alumni Online Directory
Stay connected with your peers and expand your network through our private Alumni Online Directory. Search for classmates, send private messages, and  update your address and employment information with SFU

4. Access Career Services
Recent SFU graduates can access job postings and career development information through SFU Career Services or for Beedie School of Business alumni, the Business Career Management Centre. Alumni looking for career direction are eligible to receive a 15% discount on career assessment testing and counseling through SFU Continuing Studies.

5. Attend Alumni Events
Attend alumni events throughout the year and around the world focused on networking, professional and personal development.

6. Take Advantage of Alumni Benefits & Services
Access many value-added benefits and services available at economical group rates, discounted, or in some cases for free. Why pay more?

7. Stay Involved
Inspire current students, our future alumni, by speaking at events, serving as a mentor or a project sponsor. Get in touch with your former professors or staff members from your Faculty to see what opportunities exist for you.

8. Make a gift
Most students and graduates don't realize that the majority of everyone's education is paid for through taxes and donations. Alumni constitute 80% of the University's donors. Help make a difference for students - even $5 a month goes a long way.

9. Connect Around the World
We have over 45 regional and interest-based alumni groups and representatives around the world. Groups organize activities and events based on common interests or location. Reps serve as a local resource for SFU and alumni in their region.

10. Share Your Success
We're keen to know what our alumni are doing and how they're impacting the world. Let us know when you've got some great news and we'll do our best to brag about you!

We look forward to staying connected with you!
