Jeffery Loo (BSc Chemistry, 2001) is part of a new wave of informatics professionals blending library service, information science, and in-depth subject knowledge to help research universities solve scientific and social problems. Jeff graduated with a BSc, Chemistry, Simon Fraser University, 2001, having worked in the Samuel and Frances Belzberg Library. He continued to advance his information science career, receiving a Master's in Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia in 2003. He was an Associate Fellow at the National Library of Medicine (US) 2003-2005, the second year of which he worked at the Welch Medical Library of Johns Hopkins University. He continued his academic career, earning a Master's degree in Chemoinformatics at the University of Sheffield in the UK. Jeff wasn't finished. He earned a PhD in Information and Library Science (2009) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His dissertation title was "Acceptance of health services on mobile phones: A study of consumer perceptions." In November 2009, Jeff began service as the Chemical Informatics Librarian at UC Berkeley's Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Library.
