Ed.D. Educational Leadership, 2008
Dr. Tom Roemer, VP Strategic Development at Camosun College, is also an Adjunct Professor in SFU’s Faculty of Education.
With a very strong interest in Trades and Technology education in BC’s post secondary institutions Tom’s doctoral research focused on the identity and recognition of BC’s Applied Science Technologists.
At a time when there is growing concern about the skills gap in the trades and technologies, Tom is working with other agencies and post secondary institutions to develop effective approaches to this issue. He is currently engaged with SFU, Camosun College, BCIT and the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training in exploring strategies for certification, education, and productivity, while actively advocating for enhanced recognition of career opportunities in the trades and technologies.
Tom is committed to building enhanced communications and joint programming between businesses, industry and the post-secondary system. This commitment is apparent in his involvement in the Conference Board of Canada Post Secondary Task Force, on the Board of Governors of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of the BC Shipbuilding and Repair Workforce Table and BC’s Industrial Marine Training and Applied Research Centre’s Steering Committee.
Tom is also active in projects designed to enhance business and industry initiatives in high technology and advanced manufacturing and is fostering cooperative ventures between Camosun College, other BC Post Secondary Institutions and counterparts in China and Brazil, which have the potential to create greater opportunities for the employment of workers with advanced education in skilled trades and technologies.
