Shawn Smith

BBA ,  2005

Shawn is a recognized leader in the growing field of social entrepreneurship, with deep experience in Vancouver and around the world. He most recently founded RADIUS (RADical Ideas, Useful to Society), a leading edge $1M+ social innovation lab and venture incubator housed at SFU’s Beedie School of Business that aims to change business education and launch high-impact solutions to social challenges.

While his success at RADIUS has drawn national and international attention, Shawn also makes time to work with BC Partners for Social Impact, an informal advisory group consisting of social innovation leaders from across BC, supporting the implementation of social innovation recommendations for the province.

Shawn’s previous success, creating the social innovation incubation program Global Agents, has engaged thousands of people and spun out three prominent programs tackling global poverty and youth engagement. His work with Global Agents is responsible for a $1M+ impact on global poverty and social change through microfinance loans, financing and technical assistance for East African impact-focused startups, innovative youth leadership experiences, and funding for developing world scholarships. His efforts have also received recognition through the United Nations UN Works series, Skoll Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, World Youth Summit Award, and others.

Shawn has carved the path less taken, leaving a trail of market-focused innovation and impact wherever he goes. A globally-connected Vancouverite, he is investing in helping our city emerge as a world leader in social entrepreneurship and innovation.
