Kerry Isbister

EMBA,  1997

Kerry Isbister connects with everyone, truly hears them, and then captures their essence in messages brimming with significance. He is a master communicator and it turns out that's a very important skill in the world of technology.

He is a consummate project manager. He has a great knack for listening to, and understanding his customers, and then using his talent to translate their thoughts for the "tech nerds" in the company. He's a great liaison between the real world and the tech world because he understands them both so well.

His current work at Motorola focuses on communications technologies that help "first responders" serve people when it matters most, in emergencies: when an ambulance need to be there, a fire engine needs to get to a burning building, when a policeman needs backup....

When we met as study group partners at SFU business school, he had already had a stint as an engineer in Latin America, had married the love of his life, and was working for Motorola. During the dot com boom he took a detour through a Vancouver high tech company and eventually re-joined Motorola. When Motorola shut down its Vancouver office, he was one of a handful transferred to Chicago, where he spent a number of years, but now he and Vicki make their home in Seattle.

Kerry is a thoughtful communicator, a great person to know, and a wonderful friend - very much appreciated by his MBA study group-mates, Lloyd and Sarah.
