Barbara Dunfield is a living example of Simon Fraser University’s public message and spirit: Engaging The World. As a graduate of SFU Beedie’s School of Business, she’s applied her vision, spirit and passion throughout Vancouver, and around the globe.
Currently the Chief Financial Officer for two publicly-funded companies, Barbara is viewed as an industry leader and expert in her chosen sector: the mining industry. With her business skills and leadership entwined, Barbara has successfully funded a number of companies, from seed money to initial public offerings. As CFO, Barbara’s corporate work and inspiration spans the world, with projects not only throughout North America, but also in Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Always aware of the role of women in the workplace – and her own positions in traditionally male-dominated industries – Barbara continues to lead and succeed – and to inspire and empower the women under her management.
Barbara encourages and maintains a supportive learning environment for women – skill development, mentorship, women’s team development, and career planning.
The generosity of Barbara’s time and contributions engage the community around her: BC Children’s Hospital, the Minerva Foundation, and the Ride To Conquer Cancer. In addition, she has not forgotten her most recent alma mater: Barbara has recently established a sponsorship allowing students to attend CASE competitions, providing them with one-of-a-kind, experiential learning opportunities.
Not at all surprising – and most certainly deserved – Barbara Dunfield is the most recent recipient of the Vancouver Influential Women In Business Award.
