BA (Geog), 2000
Angus played his college football at Simon Fraser University on a full athletic scholarship. He was the fifth Reid boy to attend SFU, and the third to play football there on scholarship. He redshirted his first year, and then became the team’s starting right guard as a red shirt freshman.
Angus missed the next three seasons (‘96 – ‘98) with a terrible stomach illness. He lost nearly 100lbs and looked as though football was over for good. Reid fought and made it all the way back to start for the Clan at left guard for the ’99 season. Due to his medical redshirt seasons, he still had a senior season available, and he made the most of it. Reid moved to center, was voted team captain, and went on to be only the 6th All American in Simon Fraser football history.
In his pro career Angus anchored the offensive line for the BC Lions ever since becoming the teams starting center in 2003. Originally drafted 4th overall in the 2001 CFL draft by the Toronto Argonauts, Reid was quickly moved to the Montreal Allouetes. He spent his first season in Montreal, until being traded home to the BC Lions in week 15. After playing for 3 teams in his first year, Angus settled in and was a Mainstay with the Lions. Angus appeared in over 200 regular-season games, 11 playoff contests and three Grey Cups with the Lions (winning two).
In his pro career, Reid has been a CFL all star, multiple time conference all star, “lineman of the week” winner, nominee for lineman of the year, a “Friday Night Gladiator”, 8 time team Captain, and 2 time Grey Cup champion.
Angus announced his retirement from football in March of 2014.
Angus’ talents and involvement extend far beyond the football field. During the CFL season, he is the host of the popular “The Lions Den” radio show and is an ongoing columnist for the Province newspaper. He is the head spokesperson and workshop instructor for the Ending Violence Against Women Association. In addition, Angus is a seasoned motivational speaker; he has spoken to more than 1000 schools, organizations, teams, businesses, and at other events.
Most recently Angus has yet again expanded his efforts - this time into the Commercial Insurance business with Reliance Insurance.
