Cheng-Hsin  Hsu

PhD (Cmpt Sci),  2010

After graduating from SFU in 2010 with a PhD in Computing Science, Cheng-Hsin’s journey brought him to Silicon Valley, California, where he worked as a senior research scientist with Deutsche Telekom’s research and development lab. Here, he collaborated with research teams from world-renowned universities like Stanford, the University of Southern California and the University of Virginia.

Cheng-Hsin relished the opportunity to mentor the student interns who cut their teeth on technology while working at the lab. The desire to work with students for longer periods of time inspired him to take a academic position at the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, where he had received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees.

Cheng-Hsin’s research in multimedia networking, mobile computing, and computer networks is fueled by a passion for solving real-life problems with cutting-edge solutions. By addressing and solving issues that occur on existing systems, Cheng-Hsin’s research outcomes can directly benefit both the industry and research community.

In collaboration with Academia Sinica and National Taiwan Ocean University, Cheng-Hsin recently developed GamingAnywhere, an open-source cloud gaming platform that allows users to run complex computer games on powerful cloud servers. Cheng-Hsin hopes the platform will stimulate research in interactive remote applications.

Cheng-Hsin is actively involved in the multimedia research community. He is an Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications and Application, and a TPC co-chair of ACM Mobile Video Delivery workshop. He has also served on several technical program committees of high-quality conferences, including ACM Multimedia, ACM NOSSDAV, and IEEE ICME.
