John  Boxall

BSc (Cmpt),  2007

Mobify, founded by John Boxall and fellow SFU alumnus Igor Faletski, has seen exponential growth in four years: from its humble beginnings as a startup in a one-bedroom apartment in Burnaby to a global mobile commerce platform employing almost 90 people.

As the company’s CTO, John designed and built Mobify’s core platform, which some of the largest companies in the world, including Starbucks, Toyota and Expedia, have used to optimize their websites for use on smartphones and tablets. To date, the platform has enabled more than $150 million in e-commerce revenue.

Igor and John met as undergraduates at SFU, where they founded a biweekly club called Mobile Mondays that brought students together to discuss mobile market trends. Many of these connections continued to flourish after graduation with some attendees even becoming Mobify team members.

A keen supporter of Vancouver’s startup scene, Boxall mentors burgeoning technologists at SFU and BCIT, and has helped organize several web design and performance meet-ups. He is a regular speaker among the Python and JavaScript communities in Canada and North America.

In May 2010, Mobify was named one of the “Top 25 Up and Comers” by Backbone Magazine. In January 2013, CBC News identified Mobify as one of the "10 Canadian tech companies to watch in 2013." This year, John was named one of BC Business magazine’s “30 Under 30.”
