BA (Cmns),  1995

Ian studied at SFU's School of Communication in the early 1990s, right when the Internet began to explode from academia into the living rooms of the world. His work in critical theory, combined with hands-on work as an Apple Research Fellow and at SFU's ExCITE lab, catapulted him to Silicon Valley, internet giant Cisco Systems, and some of the past decade's hottest startups.

This year, Ian pitches in the Dragons' Den on CBC on October 22nd, and his startup @RosterBot (rosterbot.com) is focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives through team sports -- along with friend, business partner (and 17-year NHL veteran) Bret Hedican. RosterBot helps thousands of teams in more than 60 countries to organize and schedule events for more than 350 different types of sports and activities.

He has also written and produced two short films in cooperation with the Vancouver Economic Commission and other partners, which help to promote the technology community in Vancouver to the world -- helping in part to lure companies like Microsoft, Facebook to establish facilities within the city.
