Norman Armour

BA (FPA),  1987

Norman Armour is a visionary advocate for artists and audiences in Vancouver and beyond. In the more than 25 years since his graduation, he has risen to become a leader of Vancouver’s vibrant arts community. Tireless, charismatic and dedicated, Norman is greatly respected as an actor, presenter, producer, festival organizer, international programmer, educator and community leader. He is a sought after performer, with over one 100 works for stage media to his credit. He co-founded Rumble Productions and as Artistic Producer (1995-2005) established the company as a mainstay of Vancouver’s independent theatre scene. He later co-founded the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, Vancouver’s annual mid-winter festival that engages audiences with adventurous contemporary performances, while promoting cultural exchange and development. As Executive Director of PuSh, Norman presents acclaimed local, national, and international artists and their works. Through mentorships, residencies, new commissions and unique initiatives, PuSh also serves Norman’s widely acknowledged commitment to the creative ambitions of artists, producers and administrators. He gives generously of his time and expertise to many arts organizations – the Greater Vancouver Cultural Alliance, Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts Council, City of Vancouver Office of Cultural Affairs and many others – constantly pursuing his commitment to the transformative nature of art. A strong believer in the value of the arts in community building, Norman has consulted on not-for-profit organizational development, overseen outreach projects, and spearheaded much-needed public dialogue on the importance of the performing arts in society.
