Ceramics in Latin America have been produced through one of three methods; moulds, coiling, and modeling. Modeling would be the most ancient of these three methods. The quality of the pieces created with these techniques is impressive especially without the use of the potter's wheel. This piece of technology was essential to the development of ceramics in other parts of the world but not here.

Decoration of ceramic pieces can involve one or more of many methods. These include incising designs, carving or molding relief as well as various techniques of painting, stamping and burnishing. The use of these techniques is very individual to the culture which employs them.
