Modeling

Modeling is the direct shaping of clay and is used as a means of elaborating, ornamenting and giving detail to an object. Modeling is also used to shape figurines without any other method of formation. It can also be used to produce solid handles or legs that are added to a vessel shape. This method may also involve the reshaping of clay already attached to an object. This is a method that can be used as an alternative to the stamping technique. Below is an example of a bowl leg that has been shaped by hand and attached to a bowl.
