Introduction

I have been working in Heritage Resource Management since 2011. I am currently working in Whitehorse, Yukon for Stantec Consulting Ltd. as a field supervisor. I have experience assisting in archaeological assessments, inventory studies, and excavations throughout the Yukon. I have also conducted archaeological field work in British Columbia, Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

I am excited to be a part of the first cohort in the Heritage Resource Management Program. I think the courses are very practical and applicable to Heritage Resource Management and think it’s great to be able to continue working while pursuing my master’s. I am especially interested to see how the Program grows in the future.

Research Interest:

I am interested in Heritage Resource Management and its changing role and value to the field of Archaeology. I am also interested in precontact archaeology and looking at how people used the landscape and resources in the past.

M.A. Research:

My thesis research is addressing the Archaeology of Howard’s Pass. I am examining its use as a precontact travel corridor. I am using data gathered through a heritage resource impact assessment project, including: site data, site distribution data, lithic analysis and comparisons of other travel corridors.

Until recently Howard’s Pass was an understudied region. Now 53 known archaeological sites have been recorded there representing one of the highest densities of sites in the Yukon. These sites were recorded through a Heritage Resource Management (HRM) consulting project.  The main goal of my thesis research is to expand on data and results acquired via this project and to explore how Howard’s Pass was used in the past.

Other Activities:

Hiking, traveling, collecting maps
