Supervisor: Dr. Dongya Yang
Research Areas: Bioarchaeology, Paleopathology, Human Osteology, Ecogeographic adaptation, Social stratification.
Research Interest:
I see myself as a bioarchaeologist. My primary interest is in measuring and interpreting health and lifestyle of ancient people, especially in relation to mortuary behavior and social organization.
Ph.D. Research:
My Ph.D. research has been focused on health status, biological adaptation and skeletal variations of ancient populations in China. The ongoing project is to use skeletal stress indicators to assess the general health status of past Late Shang people unearthed from Anyang, China and to investigate the influences of changes in food or occupation practices and the pressure of adulthood taking place during the time of increasing urbanization.
MA Thesis:
Evaluation of non-metric variation in the crania of ancient Northern Chinese human remains. A comparative study of non-metric cranial variation of three ancient populations from Northern China, which reveals 1) the statistically significant (Pā¤0.05) differences of three ancient populations; 2) the clustering pattern is similar to the geographical distinctiveness of the populations, and the pattern is roughly consistent with the studies of classic genetic markers, DNA polymorphisms, dental morphology and craniometrics.
