The Department of Archaeology is pleased to announce that Dr. Dana Lepofsky has been awarded the inaugural Warren Gill Award for Community Impact. This award is provided to a SFU faculty or staff member that has demonstrated a significant positive impact in the social, economic, environmental, and/or cultural fabric of one or more of the communities SFU serves. The adjudication committee found Dana's work with research and teaching focusing on Northwest Coast indigenous peoples and environmental ecology to be particularly compelling.  Dana’s career has been forged through a series of partnerships with First Nations groups and where community inclusion and voice is of paramount importance. Her nomination was given strong letters of support by Chiefs and cultural workers from the Gitga’at, Tla’amin, Heiltsuk and Sts’ailes First Nations. Dana also has been publically recognized by the Tleil-waututh First Nation for work within that community and public outreach.
