Archaeology Honours

Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree Requirements

  • 132 credits, with at least 60 (of the 132) in upper division courses
  • Completion of WQB requirements if admitted for or after Fall 2006 term. Details at: http://www.sfu.ca/ugcr/For_Students/WQB_Requirements/
  • Completion of Breadth requirements if admitted prior to Fall 2006 term (at least 30 semester hours from five prescribed departments outside the major department with no more than nine semester hours from any one department counting toward the 30; up to six semester hours may be from General Studies courses).
  • Minimum GPA requirements: minimum cumulative and upper division GPA of 3.00, minimum plan and upper division plan GPA of 3.00.

    Honours with Distinction / Honours First Class with Distinction

  • Students who have achieved 3.50 or greater in both the cumulative grade point average and the upper division grade point average will receive the designation of with distinction
  • Students who have achieved 4.00 or greater on both the cumulative grade point average and the upper division grade point average will receive the designation first class with distinction

Archaeology Honours Requirements (admission to program September 2015 and after)

Archaeology majors who wish admission to the honours program must have a minimum Archaeology GPA of 3.33, completion of ARCH 372 with a grade of B or better, and a minimum CGPA of 3.0. To remain in the program, students must maintain a CGPA and plan GPA of 3.0.  Students must successfully complete 132 semester hours with at least 60 semester hours in upper division courses (50 of those in upper division Archaeology courses). In addition to meeting the Group I, II, III, and IV requirements as set out for the major program, honours students must complete ARCH 376, ARCH 498, and 499.

Archaeology Honours Requirements (admission to program January 2012 to Summer 2015)

Archaeology majors who wish admission to the honours program must have a minimum CGPA of 3.00 and must obtain department permission. To remain in the program, students must maintain that CGPA and successfully complete 132 semester hours with at least 60 semester hours in upper division courses (50 of those in upper division Archaeology courses). In addition to meeting the Group I, II, III, and IV requirements as set out for the major program, honours students must complete ARCH 376, ARCH 498, and 499.
