Living with bed bugs
Basic bed bug facts are big on the agenda at a symposium underway at Vancouver’s Fairmont Waterfront Hotel until 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. Two national pest management associations and one in B.C., and the Canadian Federation of Apartments Association are hosting Bed Bugs: What you really need to know, which includes an open discussion with bed bug experts. Joti Samra, an SFU psychologist, can comment on the trauma of living with bed bugs, including anxiety, increased stress, nightmares and depression.

Social housing on False Creek
Vancouver city council voted last night to hire the Co-op Housing Federation of B.C. to manage 252 social-housing units at the former Olympic athletes’ village. “I think it is an innovative solution by mayor and council who have opened the door to the possibility of more municipal and provincial approved co-op housing in the future,” said SFU public policy assistant professor Kennedy Stewart, who teaches and writes about public management and cities. He can provide insight on council’s decision affecting the luxury condos along False Creek.
