Vancouver by-election Wednesday
Voters in Vancouver-Point Grey choose a new MLA on Wednesday. Premier Christy Clark, vying for a seat, has been criticized by NDP hopeful David Eby for missing all-candidates’ meetings, and also faces a formal complaint from the opposition regarding use of public resources to help her campaign promotion. The Liberals dismiss the suggestions and say Clark is focused on doing the premier’s job. SFU political experts can provide comment.

Bracing for American invasion
Canadian Tire is purchasing The Forzani Group Ltd. in a $770-million deal. Analysts say this is a move by the iconic retailer in preparation for potential future competition from U.S. companies like Target and Dick's Sporting Goods. SFU marketing expert Lindsay Meredith agrees with the assessment and says, "The best defence is a good offence." He adds that Canadian Tire is not unknown in the sporting goods industry but this transaction allows it to get ready for the American invasion of new competition.
