School board axe falling
Eighteen million dollars in proposed cuts to the Vancouver School Board’s budget in the next school year are predicted to affect virtually every aspect of public education. Paul Shaker, an SFU education professor emeritus and host of Your Education Matters, can talk about the impact of proposed school board cuts across the province on students immediately and in the future. Your Education Matters, an independently produced television program, kicks off a new season on Monday with Shaker interviewing former BC Teachers Federation president David Chudnovsky about the proposed cuts. Shaw TV and Novus TV carry the program.

New Hall of Fame honour for Igali
Olympic champion Daniel Igali will be inducted into the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame at a ceremony on April 10 at 5 p.m., in a room adjacent to Simon Fraser University’s West Gym, where the national championships for juvenile wrestlers are taking place April 9-11. “During my eight years on the Canadian National Wrestling team, I endeavored to bring honor to my sport, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canada,” says Igali, who hopes to complete a master’s degree at SFU over the next few years. Since winning Olympic gold in freestyle wrestling in 2000, Igali has been inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, B.C.’s Sports Hall of Fame, Burnaby’s Sports Hall of Fame and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Hall of Fame. He will be on hand at SFU for the CAWA final match at 5:30 p.m.
