Homelessness sees improvement
Homelessness in Metro Vancouver is improving, according to the results of the latest homelessness count, revealed today. Among the stats, there were 814 people living on the street within the city in 2008 compared with 421 in 2010. SFU health sciences associate professor Julian Somers is an advisor to the committee that undertakes the count and can provide comment on the latest figures. Somers is the principal investigator for the Vancouver site of a $110-million five-city Canadian research demonstration project in mental health and homelessness, and can talk about related research underway involving SFU.
