Moving on transportation
A flurry of announcements on transportation and infrastructure projects is keeping politicians busy this Friday. They include a ceremony kicking off Port Coquitlam's largest-ever transportation infrastructure project, the Coast Meridian Overpass, another announcing accelerated infrastructure funding in Surrey and yet another, in Cloverdale, recognizing completion of border infrastructure fund projects.  Transportation expert Anthony Perl, director of SFU’s Urban Studies program can comment on “the unsustainability” of all of these infrastructure investments.

Combatting gang violence
An advocacy group that seeks to stop young South Asian people from joining gangs will launch an action plan this afternoon in Surrey. The South Asian Community Coalition Against Youth Violence is holding a conference at 2:30 p.m. at the Grand Taj Banquet Hall. Provincial Attorney General Wally Oppal and Solicitor General John van Dongen will be on hand for the announcement. SFU criminologist Rob Gordon can offer some thought on the merits of the plan and the government’s reaction to it once the details are public.
