Money and happiness
Can money buy happiness, even in a time of economic crisis? Money can improve happiness under certain circumstances, says SFU psychologist Michael Schmitt, but how we as individuals and as a society think about and use money can also have disastrous consequences that can undermine happiness. Schmitt is one of the final speakers in the Psych in the City series, on Wednesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at SFU’s Surrey campus. Schmitt, known internationally as an expert on social identity theory, will examine the links between money and both individual and societal wellbeing, and offer tips on how to keep financial matters from affecting us negatively.

Weighing the polls
B.C.’s election campaign is well underway and the first of Kennedy Stewart’s seat projections is out. Stewart, of SFU’s public policy program, has calculated a simple projection based on previous election seats and votes and current polling information. He’ll continue to re-calculate projections during the campaign. The initial results? See his website: http://www.kennedystewart.ca/
