Happy birthday Harbour Centre
When SFU opened Harbour Centre 20 years ago today (May 5, 1989) Vancouver was the only North American city of its size without a permanent downtown university campus. Its location has been influential in terms of courses, programs and research – and in drawing more than 50,000 free public lecture attendees. The campus is celebrating with a founders lunch today at noon, followed by campus tours and a walking tour to the new Woodward’s site – led by former politician Jim Green, who worked on revitalizing the site for over a decade (the tour will view the exterior only).

Candidates debate at SFU
An all-candidates debate at SFU on Wednesday, May 6, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. (Academic Quadrangle, room 3181) is expected to highlight the provincial parties’ responses to post-secondary under-funding issues. Noted by some pundits as a key riding, Burnaby-Lougheed candidates confirmed to attend include the Liberal party’s Harry Bloy, the NDP’s Jaynie Clark, and the Green Party’s Helen Chang.
