Gala dinner to save Chinatown
Philanthropists, financiers, entrepreneurs and arts and culture promoters will do more than just rub shoulders at a gala dinner tonight at Floata Restaurant in Vancouver’s Chinatown. A group of Chinese Canadians who grew up in the now crumbling region and are movers and shakers in academe, business, government and B.C.’s arts community will announce a plan to help revitalize the area. The $100-a-plate dinner is a fundraiser connected to a three-day conference Chinatown and Beyond hosted by SFU’s David Lam Centre. Carol Lee, one of the event organizers and the founder of Linacare Cosmetherapy Inc., can talk about the group’s plans and the gala.
