First legal shoe drops
Paul Kennedy, Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (CPC), will release his report on tasered Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski’s death, on Tuesday, Dec. 8 (10:30 a.m. at the Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver). SFU criminologist Robert Gordon will be available to comment on Kennedy’s findings, once he has had a chance to digest the report, in what is the first legal shoe to drop in a two-stage inquiry. “Kennedy’s findings will be very interesting to read and may foreshadow the contents of the final report of the Braidwood inquiry which is due in late January,” says Gordon. Criminologist Neil Boyd can also provide comment. Kennedy spoke at a forum on investigating complaints against the police hosted by SFU’s School of Criminology earlier this week.
