The giving season
Christmas can bring out our giving nature, but how does an economic downturn affect our inclination to donate to charitable causes? Some marketers say those in need when times are tough are even more at risk. Scotiabank’s 2008 holiday poll shows 72 per cent of Canadians plan to give this year. SFU assistant business professor John Peloza specializes in corporate social responsibility, as well as the marketing of charities and nonprofit organizations, and can comment.

Riding an economic downturn
Bailouts, market dives, credit crunch – those terms are all part of the new economic reality. To sort it all out, put it into a historical perspective and predict how we will weather the financial crisis heading into a new year are SFU experts – like economist Steeve Mongrain, who specializes in public economics (and, for a different slant, economics and crime, including tax evasion). For a complete list of SFU experts and the related issues they can address, see our experts list.
