Canadian politics – the next move
Prime Minister Stephen Harper will address the country tonight about the political crisis that could topple his government. SFU political scientist Patrick Smith, who has followed federal politics for more than two decades, says Harper’s economic response and resulting coalition efforts will change Canadian politics for years to come. Meanwhile political scientist Andrew Heard, who specializes in parliamentary procedure, can talk about the roles and powers of the Governor General.

Handling the greenback responsibly
With banks collapsing and stock brokers agonizing over how to handle failing funds, risk management and social responsibility are recurring watch phrases.
SFU’s CIBC Centre for Corporate Governance and Risk Management (CCGRM) is bringing in two international experts to address these issues at a workshop on Friday, December 5 at the Segal Centre. The workshop is from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Michael O’Sullivan, president of the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors, says pension fund investors have the power to push for better corporate governance and higher standards of corporate responsibility. Raj Thamatheram develops specialist responsible investment funds, such as the Institutional Investor Group for Climate Change, which he helped launch. Thamatheram promotes responsible investment at the organizational level.
