Celebrating Outstanding Alumni
Norman Armour (Vancouver resident), Mae Burrows (lives in Burnaby and works in Vancouver), Jim Chu (born in East Vancouver) and Alan Rugman (UK resident) are not just high-profile movers and shakers in their disciplinary fields.
They are the recipients of SFU’s 2010 Outstanding Alumni Award (OAA) and will be honoured at an awards dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver on Feb. 10.
Secure your seat now and the opportunity to congratulate Armour, executive director of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival; Mae Burrows, passionate environmental advocate and former executive director of Toxic Free Canada; Jim Chu, chief constable of the Vancouver Police Department (VPD); and Alan Rugman, leading educator and professor of international business at the University of Reading based in Henley, Oxfordshire, England.

Passenger Safety Compromised
Canada’s air marshals program is being downsized due to budget cuts. The program was created following the 9/11 terrorist attacks and involves armed plainclothes RCMP members who fly on domestic and international flights. Some say the cutbacks will jeopardize passenger safety. SFU’s Andre Gerolymatos is an international security expert and can provide insight on the consequences of the RCMP’s decision.
