Salmon homecoming
Will we see a turnaround in salmon stocks this year? Early reports indicate Fraser River sockeye are returning in positive numbers this summer. According to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the forecast is for seven to 11 million sockeye. While that sounds promising, forecasts from previous years have proved to be inaccurate, leading to disappointing actual numbers. SFU fish biologist John Reynolds can talk about the latest forecast and also provide insight on whether the fish are really coming back.
