The dismal fate of a control group in a groundbreaking homelessness study headed by SFU health scientist Julian Somers in Vancouver is providing useful but morally conflicting results. Somers can discuss the moral dilemma confronting researchers in studies such as At Home-Chez Soi, where some mentally ill, substance-addicted, homeless participants are housed and others aren’t. Michelle Patterson, another SFU health scientist, working with Somers on this study can also comment.
