While many pundits are debating who should replace B.C.’s newly resigned premier Gordon Campbell, others question whether the Liberal Party has the constitutional right to appoint an interim leader. SFU political scientist Kennedy Stewart predicts the race for the premier’s chair is only going to get hotter: “This leadership race will be one of the most exciting political events in recent B.C. history as it will be contested by a large number of high-profile candidates. This will be a doozy, compared to the last Liberal leadership race where Campbell won in a landslide and the relatively low profile NDP race through which Carole James secured her leadership. If the new leader gets approval in the polls we could have a snap spring election.”
