Campus community laces up for Fox walk/run
More than 1,000 students, staff and faculty at SFU are expected to pay tribute to alumnus and Marathon of Hope runner Terry Fox by participating in the annual walk/run on Terry Fox Day, Thursday, Sept. 20 starting at 11:15 a.m. They’ll gather for a warm-up in Convocation Mall, where this year’s recipient of the Terry Fox gold medal, Jessica Des Mazes, will be recognized. Last year’s run raised more than $14,000

Youths hitting adulthood later
New census information suggests that the transition from youths to adults is taking longer than it once did. SFU sociologist Barbara Mitchell says staying at home longer, or returning as a boomerang kid, is no longer considered deviant, since it facilitates a positive lifestyle choice allows young people to maximize future transitional behaviours -- being able to finish school, save money, and prepare for the "adult world. She can talk about the study findings.

Setting new boundaries
As the preliminary report of the Electoral Boundaries Commission, released last month, makes the rounds at public hearings, the provincial government is looking to reverse some of its recommendations. Eat, drink – and be helpful
A mouthwatering event at SFU later this week will help financially challenged SFU students, local food growers and suppliers and the environment – all in one tasty meal. The first annual SFU Bursary Fund charity dinner on Friday, Sept. 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Burnaby campus Diamond Alumni Centre ($75/ticket) is part of a two-week (Sept. 14-30) provincal Eat BC campaign, a province-wide celebration of BC foods and the restaurants that serve them. Candace Bonfield of Sustainable SFU can talk about SFU’s involvement. (Also see www.sfu.ca/~sustain for more information).
