Throne speech to dwell on global economic woes
Analysts expect the Canadian government’s throne speech today to be a prescription for protecting the Canadian economy from the growing global recession rather than the usual list of policies and actions to address national challenges. SFU political scientist Patrick Smith will be available to comment on the throne speech as of 4:30 pm this afternoon. Andrey Pavlov, an associate professor of finance in business administration, is also available on his cell to comment.

Causes and effects: The economic downturn
In recent weeks there has not been a day without bad financial and economic news. How did we get there? How long and how bad could the crisis be? Come to SFU’s Burnaby campus (Arts & Social Science building, room 10081) on Thurs., Nov. 27, 12:30-2:00 pm for a panel discussion by SFU economics experts to hear their perspectives about the current global situation. This engaging discussion will include causes of the crisis, consequences for the U.S. and Canada, international aspects, policy implications and a historical perspective. This event is free, open to the public and seating is first-come, first-served.
