Last chance for charitable giving
Last-minute tax planning anyone? The clock is now ticking on charitable donations, especially if you're thinking of transferring stocks, shares or other securities to a worthy cause. "You'll want to notify your broker soon--there are only four trading days left in the year," says Doug Puffer, SFU's director of Planned Giving. "And if you're planning to send your donations by cheque, remember your envelope must be post-marked Dec. 31." Puffer is available throughout the holiday season to comment on the bottom-line benefits of charitable giving.
