Forum on pros/cons of a Metro Vancouver Police Service

The advantages and disadvantages of a single Metro Vancouver Police Service will be the focus of discussion when key players meet at a Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Simon Fraser University’s Wosk Centre for Dialogue.
The day-long talks, hosted by SFU’s School of Criminology and the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor-General, are expected to draw police managers, mayors, municipal politicians and administrators, provincial and federal politicians, and other policy makers involved with policing issues.
The Forum will be opened by the Hon. John Les. Speakers will include Kevin Begg, Assistant Deputy Minister and Director of Police Services, and Chief Constable Vern White of the Ottawa Regional Police Service.
The Hon. Wally Oppal will provide the closing remarks.
Among police and municipal leaders attending as panelists are RCMP Deputy Commissioner Gary Bass, Chief Constable Kash Heed of the West Vancouver Police Department and Chief Constable Jim Chu of the Vancouver Police Department.
The Forum is being held in the centre’s Asia-Pacific Hall and will take place from 8:45 a.m. - 4.30 p.m.
