Show some heart this Valentine's Day: treat your special someone to a $2-cupcake from Renaissance Coffee at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus and help fight breast cancer at the same time. The sale will be at the Academic Quadrangle location of Renaissance Coffee.
Funds raised from sales of the sweet treats will support SFU's team in the Weekend To End Breast Cancer annual fundraiser. The two-day, 60 km walkathon on August 17-19, 2007 raises millions of dollars nationally to further breast cancer research, treatment and prevention programs.
SFU's Manjeet Gill (health sciences), Kate Scheel (radiation safety) and breast cancer survivor Carol Thorbes (public affairs and media relations) are working hard to raise money for their team and their individual participation. Each team member must raise $2,000 to participate in the challenging walkathon.
There will be 24,000 new breast cancer cases in Canada this year. Of the 3,000 B.C. cases, up to 30 percent will require life-saving mastectomies.
The cupcakes will be on sale for a limited time only-10 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, February 14 at Renaissance Coffee's AQ location. Every purchase makes you eligible to win a large Raspberry White Chocolate Mocha Latte-Renaissance's feature drink this Valentine's.
