March 4, 2008
Forty years ago Simon Fraser University launched one of North America’s first Executive MBA programs. The university is celebrating that event and the 25th anniversary of its Faculty of Business Administration, with anniversary celebrations at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel on March 5, at 6 pm. Jim Treliving, chairman and co-owner of Boston Pizza International and star of the CBC-TV show Dragon’s Den, will be the event’s guest speaker.

The celebration will focus on SFU’s academic excellence over the years and its contributions to the business community. It’s also an opportunity to formally introduce the faculty’s new dean, Daniel Shapiro. “I am honoured to be dean of business administration at a time when we are celebrating four decades of exemplary business education,” says Shapiro. “All of us, faculty and staff, look forward to creative and exciting times ahead.”

To mark the anniversary, SFU Business is also sponsoring an anniversary speakers’ series. On Thursday, March 6 at the Segal Graduate School of Business, 500 Granville St., Jim Treliving will discuss entrepreneurship. On Friday, April 25, Jane Savage, Nike’s director of category integration, will be at the Burnaby campus to speak about sustainability. Cati Vaucelle, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, will visit the Surrey campus on Friday, May 2 to talk about innovation. Details at www.business.sfu.ca/anniversary.
